Topeka, Cannes (Wibw) – was an evening filled with authentic food, dancing, tea and calligraphy.
As the Chinese New Year approaches, one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture, the Chinese-American associations of Topeka celebrated early with Gala.
“Only a few hundred of us are from China and having TCAA, we can gather and celebrate our traditions throughout the year,” said board member Zui Holoman.
Proud of their culture and traditions – TCAA decided it was time to share what they had previously celebrated internally, with the whole community.
The celebration of the Lunar New Year was another reminder of the rich variety, rooted in Topeka.
“We want to unite people to understand our basic values and beliefs,” Holman said.
Kevin Christiansen of Barnabas Café offered various types of traditional Chinese guests tea. Tea is deeply rooted in Chinese history, something Christiansen has appreciated and included in business.
“You see the Chinese lifestyle and it often rotates around reading tea leaves or enjoying a cup of tea with friends or tea treatment,” Christiansen explained.
Every year it is represented by a symbol. Like the horoscope, it is said that the character in the year you were born dictates your personality.
2025 is the year of the snake, which is wisdom, intuition and elegance.
