Sioux Falls SD (Kelo) – Wild cats are a big problem with Sioux Waterfall more than you might think.

Some estimate that there are at least 32,000 stray cats walking the streets.

Tuesday night the City Council of Siu Falls will take over an ordinance that many believe will help reduce this number.

“The problem with cats has become so out of control,” said Sioux Empire founder TNR Matt Tugas. “You can look in any kind of neighborhood, you can look in parks with trailers, you can look in the industrial parks and see many cats, but I help people who are born kittens in their back, living in many remarkable neighborhoods. “

TNR means Trap, Ceater and Release.

Tugas is the one who asks the City Council to approve an ordinance that will allow its organization to capture legally wild cats and castrate and release them back into the community.

“So, if we are allowed to do this correctly, as the ordinance says, we will see a reduction in the number,” Tugas said.

The Human Society of the Sioux Falls region supports TNR as it says 65% of cat intake are cats.

“Not all of them are from the city of Siu Falls and obviously not all of them are wild, but every year we have a very large number of wild adult cats and the result is unfortunately not good because they cannot cope and cannot He has been released to the city of Siou Falls, “said Sioux Falls Area Humane Society Michel Hentchel.

This year she had to take over 400 cats and obviously this is something she doesn’t like to do. Society wants the TNR ordinance.

“Yes, the humane society really supports this initiative because it will help us reduce the number of euthanasia with wild cats,” Hentchel said.

Humane society says that if it can reduce cat number to about 10%, then it will technically become a haven for murder.

The City Council will take over the TNR Ordinance on Tuesday night at its weekly meeting.
