Thomas Ravenel Changes South Carolina’s Governor Running – Live 5 News WCSC News

Charleston, SC (WCSC) – a former South Carolina cashier who has announced that he will run for governor on Friday, says he no longer plans to do so.

Thomas Rawayl posted in his account on the X on Tuesday that he believed that “this is not the moment.”

“As a lonely father of three young children, I believe this is not the time to apply for a governor of South Carolina,” he said. “Therefore, I withdraw my intentions to be a governor candidate in 2026. At this stage of my life, it is much more important to raise my young family than to apply for a political position.”

Ravenel, who identifies himself as a libertarian in his X profile, has announced that he is planning to run last week.

He was expected to face three likely candidates for the Republican Register: Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evet, South Carolina Prosecutor Alan Wilson and US First Nancy Mace.

Officially, no one could run for the place to inherit current governor Henry McMaster, whose second full term ended in 2026. Last month, McMaster, who filled the last two years of the then Gov. Nicky Haley’s second term and was elected for two full terms, became the longest governor of the state.

This is a developing story. Check again for updates.
