Thomas Bernard Bettler of Nutter Fort died at home on October 29, 2024.
Tom, a nearly lifelong resident of Nutter Fort, West Virginia, was born at home in Pickens, West Virginia on December 31, 1939, to Edward Emil Bettler and Mary Catherine Clark Bettler. On April 24, 1962, Tom married Karen Ann Michaels, who survives him.
Tom is survived by his four children, Lori Jackson (Jerry) of Nutter Fort, Christy Schwartz (Bob Stemple) of Clarksburg, Craig Bettler (Amanda) of Oakmont, PA, and Evan Bettler (Sarah) of Arlington, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren, Colin Jackson, New York, NY; Garrett Jackson, Chicago, IL; Madison Long (Chase), Morgantown; Horry Miles (Erika), St. Charles, IL; Annie Bettler, Winston-Salem, NC; and Jack Bettler, Oakmont, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, William “Bill” Bettler (Becky) and Richard “Rick” Bettler.
Tom graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1957, and Salem College. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from CNG Transmission Corporation after a career in IT and enjoyed his retirement for many years while playing golf, attending WVU sporting events, attending hundreds of grandchildren’s sporting and theater events, and traveling with Karen.
He attended Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church for decades and served as church treasurer for many years. He attended Duff Street United Methodist Church in recent years. Additionally, he was active in the community and served as president of the Clarksburg National Little League during the construction of the park concession stand at Nutter Fort; was a member of the Governor’s Task Force on State Budget Reduction under Gaston Caperton; served on Nutter Fort Town Council several terms; served on the Board of Directors of the Clarksburg Mission for several years; was a member of the Nutter Fort Lions Club and a former member of the Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department.
His family is grateful for the care provided by WVU Hospice, WVU Home Health and the caregivers at the home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department, 1415 Buckhannon Pike, Nutter Fort, WV, who were always there to help when asked.
Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Friday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM where funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:00 AM morning with Rev. Clifford Schell and Pastor Tim Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Bridgeport Cemetery.
