Elkins – Elkins wood board will offer the third annual winter walk in Glendale Park in early March.

Starting at 11am on March 1, the participants in the winter walk will stroll around the paved 1-kilometer contour of Glendale Park with experts from the tree board, learning how to identify trees in winter. Participants will meet in the first pavilion to the left at the entrance of the park. The event is free for the public.

“This is a gorgeous park there and we love it whenever we receive new people who have not found Glendale and Riverland Park to see what is right here in our own city,” “ Council member of the Fourth Department and member of the Board of Tree Nanci Bross-Fregonara told The Inter-Mountain Thursday to The Inter-Mountain. “This is a great place to see the wild and explore nature right here in the city.”

The Fregonara said that the walk usually takes an hour, but sometimes it was longer because of the interest and commitment of the participants with the experts.

“It’s a great chance for people to answer questions directly,” Said Fregonara. “Sometimes you can google things on the Internet, but to have someone right there and be able to touch the bark and see the location of certain trees, it matters in identifying trees.”

An expert bird will also attend the walk for those who are interested in noticing and identifying winter birds in the area during the event.

Participants are encouraged to wear binoculars.

Participants of all ages are welcome to attend. Fregonara said the event was ideal for those who do not want to get deep into the forest.

“We had a younger people”, “ Said Fregonara. “Last year we had young people to come with binoculars. Anyway, the way you can encourage you to learn about nature at an early age is always a good thing. So we had people aged 10 to 75 to attend these things. It was really exciting to just see this turnout. “

According to the Fregonar, because of the unpredictable time that the area had this winter, the trees board planned a day for a backup of a walk on March 8. The public is encouraged to check the friends of Elkins’ trees and the social media of the Elkins City Hall in Elkins. Event updates pages.
