Theo chocolate excludes its lead store – Eater Seattle

In 2023, Theo chocolate, a chocolate producer who was a pioneer in the use of fair trade and organic ingredients, closed his factory after merging with a company called American Fiforice. The space in the old brick building near the cutting freMont remains in use as a leading store of the brand, but now Theo restricts operations even more and closes on February 16, according to Theo’s Instagram publication.

Theo also closes its Bellevue store, which means that Theo will remain available to buy online and in stores, but his own retail print in the Seattle subway will disappear.

Theo was founded in 2005 by Organic Chocolate Maver Joe Whinney, the founder of the main roast company Jeff Fairhol and Debra Music. He grew into an extremely recognizable local brand, remarkable because of his sometimes strange aromatic combinations, such as Horchata cinnamon and salty black lens.

Eater Seattle turned to Theo Chocolate to ask why the closing decision was made and how many jobs were affected, but they were not heard back.

Whatever the reason for this closing, the end of the lead store means that the brand is further excluded from the city that incubs it. There is still a team of Theo in the Seattle region, led by CEO Etienne Patout, which took over the company in 2018. But here chocolate is no longer made here and there will be no presence aimed at the client of the ground.
