Baton Rouge, La.
Tadrian Taylor is a former volunteer of the theater Baton Rouge. He said he saw the casting for “Cat on a Hot Calaine Roof”, which had two characters specifically demanding the black actors to play servants.
Taylor said that although he was placed at some point, it is concerned that these are the only roles in the audition of black actors.
“From what I know about a cat on a hot calain roof, well, I don’t know that in 2025 the race is an important part of the story that we needed servants to be black,” he said.
After turning to the theater for response, they released a statement stating that they partly accept full accountability of the pain caused by the casting message. And they work to deal with the problem of transparency and immediately take the next steps.
Taylor said after this incident, we hope that the theatrical community can get together to make a more in -depth conversation about the inclusion.
“Wondering if we could have a conversation about the various ways in which these problems are fortified to build a community theater, which is a community representative,” Taylor said.
The theater works to deal with the issue with board members of how to avoid such a situation that is happening again. Since then, Theater Baton Rouge has removed the “competition” as a description in a call call.
