Wa hat we are tracking
-
Freezing freezing then freezing rain/rainfall on Saturday
-
Strong snow probably on Sunday
-
Cold wind in pipes after the storm
For the entire viewing area is a warning for a winter storm from Saturday afternoon to the end of Sunday night. Be prepared for winter weather and significant impacts on travel.
Our next winter storm is moving today, heading straight to the area. We plan to start the storm as a slight freezing rain later this afternoon until the evening before moving to snow, then snow in the early hours on Sunday. A layer of ice to ¼ ”per inch, probably up to ½” for the southern regions, is possible before the change is made.
Then the affectionate snow and high wind can lead to white conditions during the day on Sunday. Several inches of snow is expected, especially for those north of the I-70. Locally higher quantities are possible.
Much colder air will move early next week, bringing one-digit low levels with wind chills near 10 to 15 degrees below zero. This cold air lingers most of the next week.
