In a Monday announcement, Dominion said the overall cost estimate of its wind power plant increased from $ 9.8 billion to $ 10.7 billion. “Higher estimates of the cost of upgrading the PJM network reflect a significant increase in demand growth, which requires a gradual generation and resources to transmit throughout the system,” Dominion says in the statement.

Due to the increase in costs, Dominion said the average monthly power account for a resident using 1000 kilowatt hours per month would increase by 43 cents a month during the project life.

In the message, Dominion said that the project was still to be completed in time at the end of 2026, with about 50% of the construction completed.

The wind farm, which began construction in 2024, is expected to provide sufficient power to power up to 660,000 homes after it has been completed.

In January, Dominion and Environment experts said the wind power plant would be spared by the effects of an executive order by President Donald Trump, who sleeps, resolving, leasing and approval of wind energy projects.

The wind farm is also facing a continuing case by three conservative groups that seek to stop construction, claiming to threaten the population of the right whale in North America.
