In 2025, basketball basketball officially launched this week in North Carolina.
NCHSAA’s basketball playoffs have six common rounds. The first four are played in the home place of higher seeds. The regional and national championships return to the Lawrence Joel Memorial Colosseum in Winston Salem this year as part of the final four, formatted event.
1 round of NCHSAA playoffs begins on Tuesday. Round 2 follows on Friday.
Here are the prospects for playoffs for the best teams in the area this post -season.
Wilmington, NC High School Basketball Playoff Outlook
New Hanover
- Playoff Seed: No. 1 in Nchsaa 4a East
- Record: 25-2
- Mec Finish: First
Wildcats No. 1-Semeths continued to go down the conference at the conference, providing the fifth consecutive tournament title in the middle of the middle last week. The team did not lose a match at the conference in 56 games (68, including conference tournaments).
Powered by the leading man, Rodmik Alan, Wildcats stumbled early this season in losses to Clayton and Lake Norman. For 71 days, the team has been almost perfect since then, reminding everyone why they played for the title of 4A last winter.
Everything that is less than the participation of the regional championship will be seen as a decline for Wildcats. This is a high ribbon, but one that comes with such incomparable domination.
Hoggard

- Record: 21-5
- Mec Finish: Second
While the Vikings failed to go through the new Hanover this winter, they still enter the state playoff as one of the best teams in the east.
A collage led by leading goalscorers and headed by Will Syard, Hoggard impressed thanks to his ability to distribute the ball and use a different top goalkeeper in almost every match.
Hoggard seeks to pull out a string of early outputs in the playoffs: the team has not advanced along the second round of five years.
Lanks
- Playoff Seed: No. 14 in Nchsaa 4a East
- Record: 16-8
- Mec Finish: Third
The Mideastern Conference team will host at least one playophical game during this post -season. Behind the leading goalkeeper Colin Lamb, Bucs seemed effective at times this winter.
Laney will seem to surprise this post -season after five straight season of “no progress” of last round 2 of state playoffs.
West Brunswick
- Playoff Seed: No. 11 in Nchsaa 3a East
- Record: 15-11
- Last Loss: New Hanover, February 19
The Trojans are over .500 for the first time in five years and have won the best place at Mideastern Conference to qualify for state playoffs.
Junior K’veon Griffin leads West Brunswick with 15.4 points per game. Until the Trojans did well in the Mideastern Conference tournament, they will have a chance to shift the speed this week while looking for their first playoffs for three years.
Wilmington, NC High School Girls Basketball Playoff Outlook
Hoggard
- Playoff Seed: No. 1 in Nchsaa 4a East
- Record: 26-1
- Mec Finish: First
Another regular season of dominance for the Hoggard Girls basketball team ended with the fourth consecutive MEC title and a win at the 60th Conference (72, including conference tournaments).
While the Vikings shocked, making four expression last winter, the overwhelming success of the team (lost only three games in the last two years) adjusted expectations after the season.
Although they have shown that they can oppose the chances, Hoggard’s path back to the regional championship remains a challenging trip.
New Hanover

Wildcats will receive the top 10 seeds to the east after second after Hoggard in MEC this winter.
Topsail
- Playoff Seed: No. 14 in Nchsaa 4a East
- Record: 19-7
- Mec Finish: Second
Pirates tied to New Hanover for second place in the middle of the conference this winter.
Freshman Ava Kita leads the team with 12.7 points per game this season, while Riley Trumbs is an average of 10.3. Topsail has not won the playoff game from 2017, which has made some success in this post -season a significant achievement.
