Baton Rouge – Plaza in the city center was filled with one hundred hearts, bearing the names of veterans on Wednesday morning as part of the Valentine’s Memorial Event.

The Hearts for Heroes event is “a visual presentation of our community’s respect and recognition to those who have served our nation,” said President Mayor Sid Edwards and the Advisory Board of his office on veterans.

Different groups of capitals appeared for the event to show their support.

“We have decided to go out and show our cars to show support for our veterans. We have over 20 veterans at our Baton Rouge Corvette club and are glad to make secrets,” said Bubba Cashio with Baton Rouge Corvette Club. “Without veterans, we couldn’t have the freedoms we have. We just want to honor them and show support and go out for those who are here.”

Elena Brazaru, chairman of the Mayor Advisory Board on Veterans, said she worked with volunteers on Sunday to customize every heart with the name, the military branch and any honors or awards won by the veterans who were recognized in Davis Rhorer Plaza near the City Hall of Baton Rouge.

She said she wanted to make sure that no veteran was left out of honor.

The event opened with a ceremony in Plaza at 9 am
