SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – A memorial was held Sunday for a University of Sioux Falls legend.
Ken “SID” Kortemeyer passed away peacefully in mid-October.
Students, staff and alumni gathered in his memory at the Stewart Center on the USF campus.
Kortemeyer’s nickname, SID, was short for “sports information director,” but he was also referred to as “Mr. USF” because of his love for the school.
Those attending the service were asked to show their school spirit by attending the memorial in USF attire.
“I went here, my other brother went here. I’ve been coaching here for 26 years now. He meant the world to everyone who ever met him through USF and beyond. Just a guy you gravitated towards and loved being around,” Cougars kicking coach and longtime friend Al Hansen said.
“SID was more than Mr. USF to so many of us. He was such a special friend. He was someone you could always count on and someone you always wanted to count on,” said longtime friend Chad Remington.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that they instead make a donation to the SID Kortemeyer Funeral Fund.
