The University of North Carolina Wilmington receives a $ 25 million grant – News Digest Philanthropy

The University of North Carolina, Wilmington (UNCW) has announced a $ 25 million gift from Yusri Sayed and his wife Linda (’78, ’85 million) in support of health initiatives and recruiting and detention of teachers.

The largest philanthropic gift in the university history includes $ 20 million in five years to progress UNCW programs in medical education, clinical care, research and accessibility of healthcare. The rest of the gift is designated to recruit future teachers and provide scholarships for people passing to a teaching career.

Sayeds are dedicated donors raising $ 5 million in 2017 in support of pharmaceutical sciences and chemistry programs. YouSry Sayed was earlierly a professor at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of UNCW and in the Academic Administration, and Linda Sayed was declared a well -known graduate of the year in 2024 and taught chemistry at UNCW.

“These dear friends believe in the power of higher education to transform life, to improve communities and to make positive changes in the world,” said UNCW Chancellor Asvani K. Volety. “Their gift commitment will position UNCW to expand programs, improve our facilities, and provide even more opportunities for our students for next generations.”
