The two iconic institutions in West Midlands gathered on a mission to show what Birmingham could offer

The Birmingham and Birmingham University Football Club has announced a strategic union to celebrate its 125th and 150th anniversary, which will include job opportunities, shared research and even a match dedicated to the university.

Talking about the new partnership, Jeremy Dale, temporarily acting CEO in Birmingham City FC, expressed his excitement to the future: “The University of Birmingham has been recognized as one of the leading institutions for knowledge and research. Getting involved in this incredible organization and working with them to make us smarter and accelerate our progress is so exciting. “

The university has long been a world leader in the sports world, offering the first sports science course in the UK in 1946. They also had countless international representatives, including the last Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

Institutions hope to improve the equality of health throughout the city, especially improving the life expectancy, which is currently among the largest in the country. The university seeks to help local communities in early detection of illness and allows them to access innovative clinical trials.

The university, known for its sports wisdom, will use its experience to help the club in a number of areas of physical performance to psychology. Athletes from the whole club will benefit from the academy players to those of the first teams for women and men.

Those at the Academy will specifically benefit from the University Education Program, an advanced scheme that focuses on the preparation of young athletes about the psychological requirements of high -level sports. This program will also be expanded to local schools, where the club foundation is already working hard to inspire local children to play football.

BCFC in return will offer UOB job internships, opportunities and entertainment, helping students gain experience and support their local team. To mark the beginning of the partnership, on February 16, 2025, there will be Birmingham Day when women in Birmingham City face women at Sheffield United in their championship game. UOB students and employees will be invited to watch the match as guests of the club.

There are also plans to provide opportunities for those who study creative topics at UOB. Digital media and communications students will have the chance to work with BCFC to show the city on the global stage, promoting it as a center for education and sports.

Adam Ticcle, Deputy Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, spoke about the Union, saying: “With long-established roots in Birmingham, allied for global perspectives and reaching, we see strong relationships and opportunities with BCFC.”
