The Topeka City Council approves the changes to the Camping Ordinance, discusses the resolution of sales tax – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka’s managing body has finally decided on the changes to the Camping Regulation, which have been discussed for some time.

The Council approved the expansion of the definition of public infrastructure and clarified the parameters for the camping of private property.

The definition of Camp now excludes trailers, tents and other entertainment vehicles for camping. Additionally, The Prohibited Distance for Camping Was Changed from “Within 500 Feet of Public Infrastructure to Within 100 Feet on Private Property ILLLEGAL Unless An Individual is the owner or legal tenant.

The representative of District 1 Karen Hiller was the only one without a voice. She says her problem with the change is that the language is still confusing and limits the campsite to 10 days every 6 months in their yard fails to consider those in unique situations that require sleeping in a car or RV.

“It is important when you have a law of all kinds that each of us can read it and we can understand it and have an idea of what we can do or what we cannot do and can help other people, – Hiller said S “This should not require a third party or over -discretion.”

The sales tax resolution was also scheduled for discussion. The city is considering the proposal for additional retail sales tax across the city for five tenths of one percent.

Public members were not afraid to express themselves against the proposal.
