Florida State University has officially purchased the Regal cinema near the Mall of Governor Square. The facility will be used to expand the college of cinemas of the university. And the LB Bunch does not retain its excitement.

Torchlight Studios is the Center for Cinematographic Innovation of the Film School, where students are able to use the most up-to-date production resources, to connect with graduates and to create professional relations. In addition to serving as Torchlight’s new home, the Governor’s square theater will screen the student work.

The theater of 43,000 square meters was previously on the market for $ 4.6 million. In December, university officials confirmed that FSU was under contract as a buyer. The deal was finalized last week. The final purchase price was about $ 4 million.

FSU’s aluminum Emily Hyde ended last summer at the Cinema Celection College with a master’s degree in script. She thinks the purchase price is worth it. This is because she says that getting a place for screening comes with many problems. Usually the college will have to book the cinema of student life in campus or other places.

“So there are always people who make film festivals and try to show any other projects, and when you are competing with the rest of the space school, it gets a little crazy and a little hurried, especially if something goes wrong,” Hyde says.

Hyde hopes that the newly acquired theater will bring more recognition to Florida Film School, comparable to schools in the West.

Reb Braidok, the FSU Cinema Dean, hopes for the same. Braddock included Torchlight as a college center in 2019. He says that the biggest change is now a real movie destination and much more space to create.

“So, most of this is that we now win two, three, four sound stages, a better home for our virtual stage of production and brand new facilities that we have no manufacturing design at all,” Braddok says.

Braddok and the university hope to turn the theater of the governor into the square into the Center for Community Arts and Evaluation of the film and give Talahassi a small piece of Hollywood.
