Lansing, Mich. (Wilx) – The skating community is in mourning after the tragedy on Wednesday night in Washington, Colombia County, many hold tears, just thinking about it after several athletes, coaches and family members were among the 67 people killed in the crash S
“I feel about athletes, skaters, their families, but anyone who was on this plane,” said Nancy Kerigan’s silver medalist Nancy Kerigan.
“Our sport is really tightly knit, so this really affects all of us,” said the gold medalist of the Olympic figure skating Brian Boitano.
On board the American Airlines flight, 14 people from the skating community who traveled home after participating in the National Figure Skating Championships in the United States in Wichita, Kansas.
Two skaters from the Ann Arber Figure Club also attended this camp.
“We have seen pictures of the children with some of the victims on the plane today who have spread to our coaching staff,” says Douglas How, the Figure Skating Coach of Ann Arber.
How said he knew two of the passengers who lost their lives, Evgeny Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, two coaches at the Boston skating club.
“We are all in shock. We think about the families who have left, who have to find some force to move forward, “How said.
