Tallahassee, Florida (WCTV) – After nearly three decades in the capital, it seems that the regal governor of the governor permanently closed his door to the moviegoers when the property was marked for sale in June and was closed in early December.
However, in an exciting storyline, the fate of the theater was changed after Florida State University finalized a deal to buy a movie theater as part of the University Film School.
The Film School began in 1989 and eventually became the highest-ranking school in the country. Reb Braidok, Dean of the Cinema College, said they lacked a key component – their own screen to show off their hard work.
Before buying the theater, the movie school had to hire other places that Braddok said was expensive and sometimes uncomfortable.
“We have this center in the heart of Talahasi, where it is facing the community,” Braddok said. “(That is) very transformative to us.”

He said they plan to use the theater to show, virtual production and commitment.
“In addition to wearing and treating cinema, we will have a number of production spaces that are dedicated to production,” Braddok said. “We can make feature films and we can make the production of graduates, the production of the faculty.”
Braddok said that owning the theater would open many doors to students, teachers and the community. Yamile Abuid, a FSU student, said they were excited to use space.
“I think this is such a wonderful thing because our study films that we work on so hard will be designed somewhere else that it is not like a school at school at school and even more professional theater,” Abouid said.
Nico Wilcox, another FSU student, also said they were enjoying using the theater.
“It is super exciting to think that our school now owns a real cinema and that we come here in the future and show our work as graduates in the theater and we have like our old professors and as other students to see things,” Wilcox said.
Both students shared that since the theater is more visible, hundreds of places and a large parking area, they believe it will attract more people to their shows.
FSU officials have said they have a lot of work to do this spring as they hope to open the new theater this summer.
