The school holds a parade to fight Cancer Students – KGNS

Laredo, Tex. (KGNS) – While World Cancer Day took place on February 4, the mission to raise awareness of the disease and the celebration of survivors continue to become strong in our community.

Students, employees and teachers filled the corridors of the Ligarde Primary School on Friday afternoon, February 7, to celebrate 5th grade Keira Verdigwell.

“I didn’t know anything about it, but I liked it because my friends take care of me and I like this class. I have never had anything like this experience, “Verdigwell said.

In September 2022, Verdigwell was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and would go to Driscol Hospital at the Crista Corps for treatment, putting tension to her mother Amy Verdigwell.

She (Amy Verdigwell) mentioned: “I was in a real dark place, she (Keyarra Verdiguel) even told me” I will be fine, the doctors don’t even know what I have “and” I don’t have something. She would tell me and cry because I knew she was losing her hair. She was the one who gave me strength. “

While Keyarra Verdiguel was receiving their treatment, her classmates and teachers continued to provide emotional support by sending their letters and cards, praying to return one day.

“We had to let her go, she went to school there to the hospital, and then when we returned, I registered her back to school, but she was still missing a lot of school until she was good at the end,” Amy Amy, “said Verdigel.

In January, Keyarra Verdiguel finished its last round of chemotherapy and is currently in remission, a turning point that students and teachers from all levels of class are lagging, including their former teacher Nancy Lozano.

“You ring the bell is something big, it’s the second opportunity in life, so we decided to congratulate her in this way to make her feel loved and that we are strong together,” Lozano said.

Despite countless visits, treatment and therapy, Keyarra Verdiguel maintains its positive perspective and is looking forward to the rest of the school year.

Adding, “I was happy and relieved because I no longer need to hurt and I’m strong.”

Keyarra Verdiguel will go to Cigarroa secondary school next year and says he hopes to study science in the future.
