The Philippine Community in Seattle hosts a concert to raise funds for vandalizing Dr. Jose Rizal Park – Fox 13 Seattle

On Friday, there was a full house at the Rainier Art Center, as members of the Philippine Community held a concert for benefits. The funds raised will help to eliminate the damage caused by vandals in October.

The story:

As Fox 13 reported, the vandals stole four copper memorial plaques from Dr. Jose Rizal Park, including plaque containing a time capsule of the main monument.

Gurzon is also part of the Rizal Park and the bridge conservation society.

Friday’s concert, entitled “Rizal Rhythms!” Recommended known Philippine jazz vocalist Harito, which is based in Tokyo, Japan and several other local Filipino community artists.

Initially, Seattle’s city promised to replace the plaques, but did not commit to either budget or time -line.

According to the Concert Eventbrite page, the Seattle Park and Recreation Department has agreed to replace the plaques with material other than bronze, but this “nothing has started or communicated for months.”

“We need improvements,” Gerzon. “We need speed irregularities, gates, monitoring measures and repaired vandalized structures. This is the first of many events that we host to repair and renovate the park.”

Fox 13 turned to the Seattle Parks and Recreation Division, asking for the timeline and the status of extracting material for plaques.

In a statement spokesman of the department said ::

“Our desire to see the restored plaques, but we must first determine if there is a better alternative material and evaluate the budget and the timeline. We do not have enough information to define a potential recovery plan at the moment, but to join the Community in the desire to see all our parks reserved and maintained in ways that guarantee public safety and the safety of assets such as plaques, works of works Art, facilities, etc. We work with the community of the next steps. “
