The owners of Superior Grill, awarded the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society Award – The Defender

On Wednesday, 25 of Baton Rouge’s food and restaurants gathered for lunch in the crowded rear room in Gino’s to honor Bob and Cheryl Kirhof, owners of Superior Grill. This year, Kirchoffs are the recipients of the 18th annual Mama Mama Mama Mama Mamo Mamo Mamine Marino Lifetime Awary Award.

Bob Kirchoff is the co -founder of Superior Grill, along with Phil Barbaree. The two met at a college in the northwestern state where they played football.

Bob and Cheryl Kirhof, owners of Superior Grill, are this year’s recipients of the 18th annual Mama Mama Mama Mama Award Marino Lifetime Award.




In 1983, Kirchoff and Barbree began the Superior Grill at Shreveport. Today, the chain has seats in Shreveport, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans. They are also part of the Steakhouse of Superior and Superior Seafood & Oyster Bar. Bob Kirchoff says he owes great success to his wife and bar in Monterey, Mexico, where she learned how to make Margarita, which Superior Grill serves in all his places today.

“Much of my success goes to my wife Sherill. She has allowed me to do all this work all these years,” he said.

The Kirchoffs are grateful and humble by the honor.

The Epicurean society will honor Kirchoffs on June 18:00, at the annual award presentation and dinner with five dishes at L’Auberge Casino Center. Each course is paired with a specially selected nice wine.

The award recognizes a person or family from the Baton Rouge region, who has devoted his life and work to service, expands the culinary landscape and philanthropy in the region and all over Louisiana. He is named after his first recipient.

Past honors include Luci and Wayne Stabiller, the family of Saurage of Community Coffee, the Pizzolato family of Tony’s seafood and others.

Tickets for the award dinner are $ 200, while $ 10 tables are $ 2,000 available to buy at www.bresbr.org/events-calendar. All receipts fund local charity organizations and programs focused on children’s health, nutrition and education.

In 2025, the Epicurean Society will also host:

  • Crawfête from 2 pm to 5 pm March 23, at Perkins Rowe
  • Fête Rouge from 7am to 10pm August at casino L’Auberge

The mission of the Baton Rouge Epicurean Society is to enrich the culinary culture for the community of the capital, while raising funds for children and initiatives for nutrition and health, educational programs and scholarships. This is 501 (C) 3, and membership includes culinary specialists in the capital, including chefs, restaurateurs, food establishments, food suppliers and guards and spirits.
