The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) has recently announced that the outbreak of measles in Gaines, Texas, has expanded to six cases.

DHSH announced on February 5, 2025 that these cases of measles were unvaccinated schools in school age in the region of public health in the southern plains living in Gaines, a rural area about 90 miles southwest of Lyubbok, Texas.

These new measles cases are not related to the signal issued by the Houston Ministry of Health in January 2025. This signal confirms two cases of measles associated with international trips to non -waccinated residents of Haris County.

These were the first cases of measles reported in Texas in 2023.

As of February 7, 2025, the US CDC maintains a Global Measles Council, which identifies 59 countries that take into account measles cases.

CDC, DSHS and Houston Health recommend that international travelers be fully protected against the highly contagious measles virus. In 2025, the MMR vaccine will usually be available in tourist clinics and pharmacies.
