Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) – Topeka Nursing Home has received a notice that it will soon not receive Medicare funding.
A lawyer representing the Brookfield Post acute care for acute care provided a statement of 13 news on Monday night, confirming the termination of his partnership with the centers on Medicare and Medicaid Services.
But they say that the center does not close and remains committed to finding a resolution to protect access to care.
The Medicare & Medicaid Services Center sent a notice to Brookfield last week that it will terminate its agreement with the center on March 7th.
“In addition, as permitted by the Ministry of Aging and Damage to Kansas (KDADS), it is provided that the supplier’s agreement as a nurse in the Medicaid program will also be terminated on March 7, 2025,” said In the notice. “These actions are being taken as CMS has determined that Excel Healthcare and Rehab Topeka fail to achieve significant compliance with some requirements for participation in Medicare and Medicaid.”
RoS D’Angel, whose mother is a resident in Brookfield, said she was worried about the future of the facility with 120 beds.
D’Angel says he was met with a muted answer to his questions. He said he had received a call from his mother’s social worker by informing him of an onset closure.
“A social worker called me (Monday) and said,” Hey, I went to visit your mother and as I checked emails, I received a note stating that the facility would close the seventh March permanently, “” D’Andzer said. “I said” I didn’t get it. ” The people I had the numbers for, the business office administrator did not answer. Finally, I grabbed the receptionist and this lady, she was nice, but she was like “I can’t tell you anything. I’m forbidden to tell you anything. “
In his statement, however, Brookfield’s lawyer reiterated that the facility was not closing.
“(T) He did not close the community on March 7 and in fact recently invest over $ 800,000 improvements to the facility,” the lawyer wrote. “Brookfield Post Acute is committed to exploring available resolution paths in the coming days to protect local access to care and continue to focus on its patients, families and 140 local employees.”
The facility offers short -term rehabilitation and long -term adult care. The team of their staff includes licensed nurses, therapists and care.
