The Municipal Council approved two new projects to improve the road in SW Topeka – Topeka Capital -journal

Topeka will soon see two projects to improve the road after they were approved during a meeting of the Topeka Municipal Council on Tuesday.

In April 2024, the Council unanimously approved the program to improve capital improvement 2025-2033. This outlined various projects to improve millions.

Any improvement plan, which is ready for construction and costs more than $ 250,000, requires its own approval from the Council. On January 31, the Committee on Public Infrastructure sent a recommendation to the Council to approve two projects.

What are the two new projects to improve the road in Topeka?

The first and the largest of the two projects is a complete “rehabilitation” of the SW Fairlawn Road between the SW 23rd St. and Sw 28th St. This project will cost $ 7,253 865 and will come out of numerous accounts: urban sales tax throughout the city, bonds for a common obligation, bonds for a common obligation, federal exchange of funds, revenue bonds and operations.

The project will “rehabilitate” the area, including road pavement, water change and sewer lines and expansion of intersections. Several phases will be needed to complete. Work is expected to start in July or August and will end in a year.

The next road improvement project was to replace the traffic lights of the SW 21st Street and Belle Avenue.

This project will cost $ 528,475 of the city’s total bond. It is believed that construction will start in June and will take about 45 days.

They both had unanimous approval.
