Tallahasee, Florida (WCTV)-After hearing the Sawyer Crowley story, the nine-year-old boy seriously hurt in a hit and running, the motorcycle club held funds to recover on Saturday.
“I have children of the same age,” said the president of the local eternal several motorcycle club David Lord. “It’s about returning the community and helping any way.”
The fundraising was at Harley-Davidson at Tallahassee, with motorcyclists selling food, raffle tickets and prizes to donate to Sawyer Recovery.
“It’s really nice,” Sawyer said. “And I like to see all the motorcycles.”
Sawyer was hit by a car in January, leaving it with brain bleeding and broken femur. The driver escaped the scene, but was later arrested.
Earlier this month, Sawyer returned home after spending weeks in Jacksonville for rehabilitation.
“He has proven that everyone is wrong with the recovery process,” said Sawyer Caitlin Crowley’s mother. “He takes a step in the right direction every day.”
Caitlin said she never imagined that her family received so much support. “It was absolutely incredible and it really proves that the community could get together,” she said.
The family says that, in addition to the Vacula and Talahasi County, they have received support from people in Perry and Mariana. “I have just blown up that many people have reached our history,” Caitlin said.
Dozens of people attended the fundraising on Saturday, with some wore T -shirts who read Team Sawyer.
Caitlin said the way to recovery was not always easy, but they are optimistic for the future.
“We are just so grateful for this and we are so happy that everyone supports him and supporting us as a family,” Caitlin said.
The family still accepts donations for help in the full recovery of Sawyer. You can visit their gofundme by clicking here.
