The mothers in Birmingham hold a vigil, a request for a request for violence with a pistol – the leader of Alabama news

Birmingham, Ala. In response, mothers against arms violence hold vigil to honor the victims and call for change.

Wanda Walring, the founder of “Mothers who want the violence to stop,” and Sherry Cannon, the founder of “What about us”, led the vigil. Both women have lost sons for weapons violence and advocate for a more fucked city.

“We lost our children, but we’re still here fighting,” Walring said. She stressed that the tragic reality of the loss of young lives, stating: “Every time we turn on the TV, we watch some young children … Losing our lives of violence with weapons. They bury their children at an early age! “

State representative Juandaline Givan joined the vigil, emphasizing Birmingham’s trauma. “We just heard … forged a car that was driving. The reaction here at Railroad Park was stopped because it sounded so much as a shooting,” Givan said. “Now we live in a time when we have to look behind our shoulder or almost hide when you hear these sounds.”

Givan also called for action, questioning the delay in the implementation of changes. “We work on things about the state,” said Gavan, “But the question is, when?” she said. “We did not need a new committee report. There was a committee report in 2021 and so, the question of when would all these things happen?” She added.

The vigil included a poster showing 151 lives lost by a weapon violence in Birmingham in 2024, including the face of 18-year-old Ronald Bennett Jr., a senior at the High School in Huffman, who was killed on February 1. The mothers vowed to continue their fight against this tragic cycle, hoping that one day they would no longer need.
