The McNees column failed to include all the facts of the incident in the college city | Opinion – Tallahassee Democrat

Over time, I settled in practice to keep my personal opinions on myself. However, the recent opinion, written by FSU professor Mark Nkneis, prompted me to go beyond this balloon and that was a struggle.

For those who know me, I am passionate about the humanization of the badge and thus the mental health and well -being of all our first reacting. This is the driving force behind my books and my current employment.

This opinion from McNees emphasizes for me one of the differences between the profession of law enforcement and our other noble professions for the first response. The script that unfolded the next night in Talahasi is a classic. This professor provides only a partial picture of what happened and what the officers are confronted with.

He does not mention the countless videos that depict the other side of the story. Participants climb to the top of moving vehicles and fail to obey the legitimate orders from these officers. I have no doubt that if the officers did not take any action and someone was struck and wounded by a vehicle or other person, a piece of opinion would be written for that.

This is the difference. Officers are often put in a profit -free situation and are criticized, no matter. Although it happens, it rarely happens to my siblings in those other professions for the first answer to encounter such criticism. He adds another stress to work that has an abundance.

McKnis states that when the officers placed the tactics of the pepper ball, it created a dangerous situation. I believe that the dangerous situation has already been created by the participants, as described above.

And what about the countless photos and videos there not only of TPD employees, but also employees in Florida Panhandell’s sledding with the children, making snowmen with the children, making snowy angels with the children. All positive interactions in the community.

Mcnees calls for a quick, comprehensive review of TPD protocols. I wonder if he has read these protocols, I doubt. They are available on the TPD website for free. I wonder if he has taken the time to graduate from the TPD Citizens Police Academy. I doubt. I wonder if he has taken the time to make a “ride together” with an officer to see what employees are confronted with every day. I doubt.

I am a fan of the agency’s transparency and I have all the confidence that TPD will review what happened tonight and the actions taken.

He may have to consider a quick and comprehensive review of his thought process and the importance of sharing all the facts.
