The marriage of court cases in Birmingham raises fears of public safety – the leader of Alabama news

Birmingham, Ala. The President of the Birmingham Municipal Council, Darrell O’Kwin, stressed the question, noting that some cases were brought before three to four years of waiting before they go to court.

O’Kwin said the backlog was beyond the control of the city and had taken his concerns about Mayor Randal Woodfin. The mayor acknowledged the issue by saying that discussions were being held to deal with the lag, but stressed that progress requires state aid.

“With no state assistance as it is linked to either a rocket package or a specially appointed judge who deals with more lawsuits for murder and, or additional judges in the 10th trial that focus on penal courts, We will not see that the lag behind, we will not see this backlog.

Woodfin added that he needed at least two judges in the criminal court to facilitate the situation.

O’quinn calls on Community members to contact their state legislators, senators and representatives, emphasizing the need for more judges to hear cases in Birmingham.
