The Huskies opened the season with a 95-53 win over Seattle U – University of Washington Athletics

SEATTLE – The Washington women’s basketball team (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) picked up its first win of the 2024-25 season in dominant fashion, defeating the rival Seattle U Redhawks on Monday night at Alaska Airlines Arena.

Four Huskies reached double figures in a well-balanced night for Washington, as every UW player had points on the board by halftime and every player finished the night with at least four points.

The Huskies’ 95 points Monday night were their most in a season opener since 2016, when Washington beat Eastern Washington 100-52. It was UW’s seventh straight home win.

El Ladin led the Huskies offensively with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting while recording five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Teagan Brown added a career-high 14 points off the bench and Shayla Gilmer also recorded a career-high seven points to go along with four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Hannah Stines had 12 on 5-of-9 shooting and Sayvia sellers added 10 points and seven assists in the game.

The Dawgs wasted no time settling back on their home court, outscoring the Redhawks 28-3 in the first frame. The Huskies used back-to-back 25+ point quarters to build a 54-15 halftime lead.

38 of Washington’s 95 points came off the bench and 44 of them came in the paint.

The Huskies turned 10 steals into 35 fastbreak points, limiting SU to just three total points in transition.

Washington took care of business on the glass, outrebounding Seattle U 47-21, including 15 offensive rebounds.

The Huskies’ transfers made a dent in that Huskies’ rebounding margin, as Brenna McDonald dropped eight and Tyra Eke there were six boards to go along with six points.

Freshman Devin Coppinger also made his Husky Nation debut in just over 18 minutes of action, recording five points and two assists.

Washington will return home for two more games this week, starting with Pacific on Thursday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. The game will be available on B1G+.
