The Gilbert Quarter has beef with free roaming livestock. Why the city can’t do much on the matter – kjzz

Gilbert officials held a training session on Tuesday to deal with the fears of residents who say their neighborhood has been overcome by live roaming livestock. The city says there is very little that can be done.

The Adora Trails neighborhood is sitting in the southern end of the city, near Hunt Highway and Higley Road. And is adjacent to the Indian community of the Gila River.

The cattle belong to the Gila River ranch and they often wander into the neighborhood – they cause concerns about safety, traffic and property damage.

Heather Ricobono resident says cattle are present in many places.

“They are on our sidewalks. They are in our parks. They are on our streets. It doesn’t matter the time of day. It feels that there is a constant situation where you can always easily notice a large group of cows, “she said.

City authorities say there is a small one that can be done, citing state laws for free scope-which put the burden on property owners, not the ranch, to protect the cattle from their property.

The sovereign status of the Gila River also limits the city’s capabilities.
