Here’s what to know:
The Regents fired Gow after learning about a porn hobby
UW system regents removed Gow as chancellor in December 2023 after learning through an anonymous complaint that he and his wife Carmen Wilson have discussed sexual problems in their sexy healthy cooking videos created and participated in online pornographic videos and They publish two E -books under the aliases about how porn enriches their relationship.
Gow had a reserve position at UW-LA Crosse as a professor of communication, but then-Chancellor Betsy Morgan put him on paid leave after being fired as Chancellor, preventing him from sliding in this place. The Regents formally discontinued their professor last September after university lawyers claim that Gow has acted unethically, violates the terms of the contract and damages the reputation of the school.
Gow has never apologized for producing pornography and did not make any promises that he would not do it again, even though he told the Associated Press that he and his wife did not produce their “sexy healthy cooking” on YouTube show from the summer of 2023
“It was a very expensive hobby and we are pleased with what we did,” Gow said. “But if someone else suggested to make a video, we would be open to this conversation.”
Gow claims his termination was unconstitutional
Gow is alleged in his court case that the dismissal of his professor’s position has violated his free speech rights under the US Constitution.
The lawsuit claims that the videos and books Gow and his wife have been created are not obscene or illegal. He distributed them outside the workplace of the UW-LA Crosse, produces them while on vacation and personal time, and personally covered the production costs. Gow said he did not take deliberate steps to use his public position at the university to promote content, discuss videos or books with students or colleagues, or encourage them to buy them.
The lawsuit seeks a court order, which restores Gow as a professor, as well as an unspecified lost salary and other damage.
“As a public officer, Dr. Gow has the right to speak as a private citizen on public issues, as a healthy human sexuality and the best ways to promote strong monogamous marriages,” the lawsuit said.
Go told the AP that he had chosen to file the action to the Madison Federal Court on Monday because it is the first day of the spring semester at the UW-LA Crosse and it should be in the classroom.
Faculty Committee found Gow, engaged in unethical behavior
The UW-LA Crosse Faculty Committee, who recommended GOW to be fired as a professor, found it was not unethical to create pornographic videos, but accused him of his position on the faculty to generate more interest and Revenue from videos.
The Committee noted that Gow invited the adult movie star Nina Hartley to speak on the campus in 2018 without revealing that he and his wife had sex video with her. The Committee also asked its “intellectual honesty” to describe e -books as real stories, although acknowledged that the authors had taken “creative freedoms” and made him not cooperate with an investigation. Gow claims to have suggested that he answers in writing.
