For the past 15 years, Southern Jersey has been watching a football competition in high school, with several schools competing for national championships. Also, numerous high school athletes in South Jersey receive scholarships to play football from Division 1 at a collegial level.

One of those high schools that has become a perennial contender in South Jersey is the Cedar Creek High School. Located at EGG Harbor City, the football team has won two state sectional titles (2015, 2019), together with the Regional South Jersey Championship/Central Jersey in 2021.

Two graduates of Cedar Creek High School are currently playing at NFL. Bo Melton (Green Bay Packers) and Max Melton (Arizona Cardals) were key players during CCHS Pirates’ latest post -season pirates.

On Saturday, February 15, in the city of Hamilton, there was a traffic stop, which led to the arrest of former Cedar Creek high school and Arkansas University footballer Damon Mitchell.

The reports state that the police responded to a “temporary risk protection order” and found two guns, two rifles and magazines with high capacity in the possession of Damon Mitchell. Mitchell’s father went to the police with concerns about his son “exposed extreme and unstable behavior.”

The nickname “Duwop”, Damon Mitchell was the defender of Cedar Creek when he led the crime, which is an average of 38 points per game and a game in his first final performance of the South Jersey Championship. Mitchell was announced for 2012 on Atlantic City Player of the Year and will continue to play football for three years in Arkansas.

On Monday, February 24, Damon Mitchell was released from prison at the hearing of the Supreme Court of Atlantic County. The conditions of his release, before he returns to court on April 9, are weekly inspections with the court, together with the maintenance of “legal contact” with all family members.

Now at the age of 30, it was because of the Damon Mitchell family to Rutgers University to play the football season of the College 2017. His younger brother Ahmir was a 4-star rookie, who initially engaged in Michigan University.

But Ahmir Mitchell was stopped before playing a Michigan Werewolf game and would later transfer to Rutgers. Damon Mitchell returned to New Jersey to be with his brother as a member of Scarlette Knights’ football program.

Ahmir Mitchell suffered a torn ACL and was later fired by Rutgers’ football team to violate the team rules. Damon Mitchell graduated from a bachelor’s degree with a degree in English/Journalism and has lived in Arkansas in recent years. Duwop returned to New Jersey in February to attend the Cedar Creek Wall Ceremony.

John Björklund, Mitchell’s lawyer, explained to the court that his client is now working as a truck driver and, according to Arkansas laws, legally owns the weapons found during a police station on February 15th. Mitchell has been reported to have three children for whom he is a financial supplier, along with no criminal files in Arkansas or New Jersey.
