The Florida Senate Panel wants more comparison of percentages, costs, information on the profit of the OIR website – insurance magazine

The Florida Insurance Service provides a tool to compare tariffs on its website for homeowners and car insurance owners, which allows consumers to look at estimated premiums for limited property and policy owners.

According to a bill approved by the Florida Senate Banking and Insurance Committee on Tuesday, this website will have to be promoted and will be part of a detailed consumer guide, which presents information on policies and insurance companies available in the country, together with “transparency reports” that would show the cost and profit factors.

“This will help to increase the confidence of users in the insurance market by providing a clear, more accessible information about the Oir website,” said Senator Brian Avila, R-Hialeah Gardens, which introduced the measure, a Senate 888 bill.

The existing Oir webpage “is not so descriptive and I think Oir would say that it could be a little better,” Avila said at the Commission meeting.

The current site, known as the “choice” on the Oir web page, under the “Consumer Resources” button, shows premiums for only three common types of homes: one that was built before 2001 without installing wind mixing measures valued at $ 150,000; One built before 2001 with work with mitigation of the wind; and a new $ 300,000 home for new construction.

The page lists the tariffs of 16 insurance carriers and seems to be quite accurate, at least for the prices of a carrier of an existing home in Florida Panhandell.

The Avila bill will require the site to include tariffs from any available insurer working in the state. The bill will also require insurers to prepare transparency reports when submitting tariffs starting in October. These reports will be provided to potential policies and will be available on the OIR site showing a number of variables that enter the price of insurance coverage – information that is not easily accessible to users. This will include reinsurance costs, claims for claims, legal protection and restriction costs, fees and commissions, profits from the insurer, adverse findings, contact information and other data.

Circuming questions about the role of managing common agents has also made it the bill. The Website will need to include information about “Whether the insurer uses related enterprises to carry out administrative, processing of claims or other functions of the insurer and, if so, the total percentage of the direct written premium paid to the related enterprises by the Insurer
Preceding calendar year. “

“I think we all admit that there are countless points of data that could be available and it is a matter of consolidation on a website that is friendly to users and would help users to navigate the process,” says Senator Jim Boyd, R-Bradenton, who is an insurance agent and agency owner. “The market stabilizes and improves and there will be more choices as we move forward.”

The average changes in the state percentage, approved rates and examples of the district rating would not be considered commercial secrets, the bill notes.

The text of the approved version of the bill can be seen here. He now goes to at least another Senate committee for review.

The Committee also voted in support of the Senator Senator Jennifer Bradley Brahly Brand 794, which will benefit from the excessive use of artificial intelligence in the processing of claims. This will require a qualified human professional to refuse the refusal of claims and to require insurers to certify that AI did not serve as a basis for refusing a claim. Oir will be able to audit the refusal of claims to check compliance.

A similar restriction was included last week in the SB 1740 and House Bill 1555.
