Unexpected, unprecedented and incredible were just a few words that were spoken on Monday in Florida Capitol after state MPs rejected Governor’s special session Concerning immigration and created one of them.
After getting out of less than 30 minutes, the deputies dumped the Governor’s terrain for immigration, apartment, petition reform and relief of hurricanes.

Now they will only consider one bill in both chambers this week, believing that other issues can wait until March.
The legislation will replace 11 ideas from Desantis allies and will focus exclusively on immigration.
Perez said the legislator’s special session this week will look at an omnibus bill both in the House and in the Senate, which aims to:

The governor published a long statement on Monday, applauding the course of lawmakers to “come in and do their job,” but said their bill was “significantly greater” than the proposals he had outlined.

There was a lot of speculation about how we would answer this special session.
It is speculated that we will shake and get out today.
And that’s true, but that’s not the whole story.
Members, this morning, President Albrite and I submitted to the Secretary of State a call for a special session to call at 10:45. We will get out of a special session and we will immediately get out of legally-Called Special Session B.
I believe that special sessions should be used sparingly. They should not be stunts designed to generate titles. I do not like special sessions because they inhibit the very thing that the legislative process must encourage: pressing and attracting meaningful conversations that lead to the development of good and better ideas. Special sessions must be reserved for those issues that cannot really be addressed in the normal course of the legislative process.
Most of the questions raised in the proclamation for a special session simply do not answer that threshold. The session is only weeks. We have the opportunity to move at the same time and thoughtfully. We have not chosen and we are fine at the moment.
Many of you are areas affected by natural disasters or have condominium. You deserve to be part of the conversation about these issues. Surfside collapse tragedy is a painful reminder of what happens when we do not receive the law. We all know how difficult Vicky Lopez works on this. I am convinced that a representative Lopez, in consultation with the chairman Salzman and the Chairman Buchanan, will propose a bill that is considered and meaningful to this home.
The Constitution contains a voting initiative that is intended to give the Floridians a voice. However, this process is infected with special interests with big money. I believe that voting initiatives need reform. However, I do not believe that we – as selected employees – must be inserted into a special session and after a few days we try to fix through changes to the laws that affect the rights of the voters themselves, who sent us here in Talahasi. I asked the representatives to understand on this issue and to work together with President Chani and President Robinson to develop meaningful proposals to protect the process of our citizens’ initiative from abuse.
Now illegal immigration is a completely different matter. We carefully studied President Trump’s executive orders and had conversations with the White House.
Over the last four years, the federal government has been pursuing an illegal immigration policy that made fun of our national sovereignty. The American people have rejected the policy of open borders and President Trump is moving decisively to cope with this crisis.
There are actions that Florida has to take now to quickly gain with President Trump’s directives. Unfortunately, the governor’s proclamation was just too narrow to achieve all the things we need to do to help President Trump.
We were considering carefully the proposal of the governor of landing and he had some good ideas. But many of his proposals are bureaucratic. In addition, his proposals will distract local law enforcement operations, and at one point he even offered to arrest local law enforcement officers.

We will invest more than half a billion dollars to help local law enforcement authorities fight illegal immigration without reducing their ability to protect and serve their communities. We will turn Florida into a national destination for the training of law enforcement officers to cooperate with federal immigration officers. We will strengthen free facilities for use through ice and create a new capacity. We will improve penalty and ensure that when the bad ones are illegal aliens, we transfer them to ice for immediate deportation.
We need a single point of focus in the state’s government to coordinate immigration. We need an agency with a wide range of state and experience in working with the federal government and law enforcement. For this reason, we have chosen to appoint the Agricultural Commissioner to perform the functions of the Chief Immigration Officer of the State. In fact, the position we now know, as the Agriculture Commissioner actually started in Florida as a commissioner for immigration.
We will terminate the policy to allow illegal aliens to receive public education at public colleges and universities.
The bill we will submit before this authority will impose an obligation of each country and a local agency to cooperate fully and to share information with federal staff of immigration and border security. We will create more badges, hold more bad guys and provide more beds. According to this bill, we will guarantee that Florida is working more than any other state to support President Trump in his efforts to restore the honesty of our nation’s boundaries.
Members, before we finish our business in a special session and start our work in a special B, I have to deal with one problem. I fully understood when I took this office that the attacks and criticism came with a hammer. I’m very pleased with that. However, in the last week, attempts have been made to harass members of this house, including sending mass emails with members of personal mobile phone numbers on them. Attacks against this body – attacks against all of you – are not acceptable. This house will never be moved by threats. I will always have an open door and an open mind, but if someone tries to force me to choose parties – members, please know that I will always choose yours.

“Although Florida’s leadership initially said that the call for a special immigration session was” premature “, they finally agreed to get in and do their job.
