The efforts of Utah’s team against Colorado brings UTES to the sixth consecutive win – Deseret News

Utah continued her march on Big 12 Play on Wednesday night, defeating an old enemy of PAC-12, Colorado, in a relatively convincing way.

Utes used a big early start to take control, led for everyone, except for 20 seconds, and received up and down the list of Buffaloes 77-60 victory in Huntsman Center for Utah’s sixth direct victory.

“Many people (stepped) in the Point column, but I also think we did a good job of rebound, especially in the offensive end, with 12 offensive boards created a second chance for our team, which is great,” Utah said coach Gavin Petersen.

“You know, I have great respect for Colorado, their coaching staff and I know they were hit with the bug mistake, but we knew they would give us everything they have.”

The large tracks, to start the first and third quarter, have raised UTES. After giving up Jumper only 21 seconds in the game, Utah continued to continue with 17-0 to take control of the game and never gave up again.

May Torre scored 11 of these points, and Jenna Johnson had the other six.

Petersen pointed out the defense focus of their team and rebounds, which helped them get a strong start.

“(Colorado) known for his ruthless efforts to bounce, especially in the offensive end. So, we made it a point in which we had to compare this intensity or rise above it and limit them to one shot and out. And I think that managed to bring us and run us, “Peterssen said.

Colorado eventually answered 10-0 runs, and Buffaloes eventually struggled within four points at 38-34 in the second quarter before Utes ended the half at 7-0 to lead 45-34 on the break.

Although Colorado scored the first three points of the second half, Utah uses another big running, the one with 11-0 to push his lead to 56-37. This time Kennady McQueen had five points, Gianna Kneepkens Four and Johnson Two in the defining running.

As the buffaloes continued to fight, they never threaten Utez down.

“We knew they would come in and play hard, so I was really excited to see my start in the first quarter to really arrange us,” Petersen said. “And then, you know, since the game passed, I think there were times when we removed our leg from the gas pedal that should not happen, but sometimes it happens.”

It was a balanced effort around for Utah. Toure and Kneepkens led the way to UTES in their sixth consecutive victory, like four of those who go home.

Toure scored 15 points, all in the first half and added six rebounds, two assists, a block and theft, although she turned it four times.

There were also key moments delivered by other Utah players, from Ines Vieira to Matty Wilk to Kenadi McQueen and even Samantha Crisis.

Vieira ended with seven points, five rebounds, five assists and two thefts. Her offensive rebound and the subsequent 3-indicated at the beginning of the second quarter decreased the speed of short Colorado briefly and gave a lead to Utah 36-28.

Six Utah players had four or more struggles.

UTES had an advantage with 36-24 in paint points, including another solid night from Johnson (eight points, five rebounds, three assists).

After playing four of their last six games at home, Utes will go on the road on Saturday to face Arizona State (2:00 pm MST, ESPN+) for the second time this season.

Utah beat the Sun Devils 102-82 at The Huntsman Center on December 21 in the big 12 opener for the two schools.
