A joke turned serious for a woman from the Dominican Republic, who was arrested at Miami International Airport last Sunday after she claims she had a bomb in her bag, according to employees.
Carmen Rosa Solis Leru, a 55-year-old swimming instructor from Santo Domingo, waited in a queue in Mia on Sunday night when an airport employee asked her to consolidate her three bags. She declined, claiming that she stated that one of the bags contained a bomb, as reported by a police officer in the arrest report.
An employee then removed Solís Leroux from the questioning line. Her protection? “I was just joking,” she told the authorities. Despite their allegations, the K-9 units were sent to search the area and her luggage, but no explosives were found.
Solís Leroux was removed around 7:30 pm at Terminal D for a fake report and it was transported to the Turner Guilford Knight correction center. The Dominican citizen is now faced with an incorrect report on planting a bomb, explosive, weapons of mass destruction or violence to use a firearm, a second -degree crime, as reported by local 10 news.
More incidents in Miami emphasized the seriousness with which the authorities treat such threats. In January, an abandoned backpack in a lively brick area sparked a signal of bombs, causing police mobilization and pedestrian concern. Bomb troops experts examined the suspicious bag and found it harmless. Three persons were detained during the police operation.
Similarly, the false threat of bombs led to a safety lock and a significant presence of the police at Hialeah Senior High School in Hialeah at the beginning of last December.
