LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – There is an update on the man responsible for activating a city-wide safe mode at all Laredo schools.
Juan Carlos Moreno, 41, was taken into custody Tuesday morning, Oct. 22, after allegedly leaving a note threatening violence at a Laredo school while at the Border Region Behavioral Health Center.
According to District Attorney Isidro Alaniz Moreno has posted bond and LPD is closely monitoring his whereabouts.
Alaniz said his office was reviewing the contents of the memo to determine possible charges, clarifying that reports circulating on social media of 40 alleged charges were false.
Alaniz mentioned, “This information is about Juan Carlos Moreno Marquez. He is another accused with a similar name but a different date of birth. He is serving a 22-year sentence and is serving his sentence at the Texas Department of Corrections.
LPD’s mental health unit recently began a follow-up evaluation for Moreno.
Thanks to the Department of Mental Health’s intervention efforts, Moreno is being assisted with a more thorough clinical evaluation.
Alaniz added that all threats made against schools are taken seriously and appropriate action will be taken.
