LUBBOCK, Texas (News Release) – The Diocese of Lubbock announces the opening of the Diocese of Lubbock’s Guadalupe Center for Youth and Families.
The building officially opens its doors on November 4.
The center houses the diocese’s marriage and family life staff and the chancellor’s office; the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries; and the Safe Environment Office of the Diocese.
Although the Diocese of Lubbock is not hosting an official grand opening for the new center, the Guadalupe Youth and Family Center is open for meetings and events to begin taking place.
Plans for a new youth and family center at the former Guadalupe Elementary School in north Lubbock’s Guadalupe neighborhood were announced in August 2024.
The School Board of Lubbock Independent Schools — in a unanimous vote — donated the building, located at 101 N Avenue P, to the diocese in March 2024.
Ministry to youth and young people was the most frequently mentioned topic in the listening sessions led by Bishop Korver in 2022 in the 60 Catholic churches in the 25,000 square mile area that makes up the diocese.
“As a diocesan church, we must boldly and intentionally move to a new approach to serving our youth and all young people,” said the Most Rev. Robert M. Korver, Bishop of Lubbock. “Moving forward in new directions with youth ministry will require great commitment and cooperation among all of God’s people in the Diocese of Lubbock.”
Under the leadership of Bishop Koerver, the Guadalupe Center for Youth and Families will serve as a hub for collaboration with – and commitment to – thousands of young people and families in the 25 counties of the Diocese of Lubbock.
Guadalupe Youth and Family Center, Diocesan Marriage and Family Life and Chancellor’s Office; the Office of Youth, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries; and the Diocese Safe Environment Office can still be reached by calling the Diocese of Lubbock’s main phone number at (806)792-3943.
