“He was a very loved son, brother and partner and would take us a lifetime to forget how special he was. RIP John ‘The Kid’ Cooney. “

Kuuni of Golway was treated at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after his defeat by Walesman Nathan Howels in the Alster Hall last Saturday.

A statement on Monday said he was in intensive treatment.

The boot, the first defense of Kuuni from the Celtic title in a Super Feather, was stopped in the ninth round.

He underwent surgery after it was discovered that there was intracranial hemorrhage, also known as brain bleeding.

Kouni won the title with a victory over Liam Gainer in Dublin in November 2023, but spent a year from the ring with a hand injury.

He returned in October with a victory over Tampela Maharussi.
