LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – The City of Laredo is advising the public following a boil water advisory. The City Council discussed water infrastructure updates at a recent special meeting.
On Friday, Oct. 25, Laredo City Manager Joe Neeb provided members of the Laredo City Council with the final steps for the city’s next steps while answering questions.
However, community members who attended told KGNS they felt the city’s efforts were not enough and wanted more transparency and action.
For Laredoane and veteran Valentin Ruiz, he doesn’t believe the city is prioritizing the right things.
Ruiz noted, “They try to blame everything on illicit relationships. No, let’s talk about the facts that some developers in the past have been allowed to not do the right thing in infrastructure and that’s why we’re suffering.”
For Michelle Segovia, who doesn’t live in Laredo, the situation was a little different.
Segovia commutes to the city from Hebronville for work.
Segovia works with the seniors community and says he knows firsthand how the notice has affected the most vulnerable communities.
“I mean we have to think about everyone and every situation, like brushing your teeth, washing your face and even taking a bath,” Segovia said.
Segovia adds that the need for water was so great that he had to bring resources from Hebbronville to Laredo.
The city hopes that with their post-emergency plan, future boil water reports can be prevented.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, October 28.
