Chesapike, Virginia (Waves) – Andrew and Jennifer Du have dedicated a lot of time to Chesapeake Animal Services. They have been volunteers at the Adoption Center for more than a year together.
“We have fun and it doesn’t only help animals. I think it really helps us. It’s like a cheap, cost -effective alternative to marriage therapy, “said Jennifer jokingly.
While the couple often takes care of animals at the adoption center, they also own pets. At the moment, they are grieving for the recent loss of one of their dogs.
“We are still in a phase of the loss, a little unexpected, one of our own dogs,” Jennifer said. “It was very difficult for me to deal with that.”
Still in grief, Andrew had the idea of Jennifer’s 40th birthday, which she knew would surely lift her mood.
“My wife’s love for animals is really, I would say, beyond,” Andrew said. “I try to find something meaningful, practical and everything else. And as much as we do here, it is somehow close to the home for us. We just wanted to really do something great and show how wonderful she was as a person. “
In honor of Jennifer’s 40th birthday, Andrew decided to cover the adoption fees of all 40 animals in Chesapeake Animal Services.
“I contacted Miss Casey, the Volunteer Coordinator, and initially asked how many breeders we had. It is convenient that there are actually 40 dog kennels, so I decided it was appropriate, “he said. “40 kennels and 40th birthday, they walked hand in hand.”
Adoption fees for the 40 animals amount to over $ four thousand. Jennifer said no other gift would be so significant.
“It’s so nice to know that he just understood in my heart,” Jennifer said. “This is what I value most, you know, and he is supportive enough to make even such a gesture that was very big. And that really meant a lot. “
The generous gift is the one who will continue to give. Chesapeake Animal Services said 10 adoptions were already paid. The Deche family hopes the covered costs will help pets find a home faster.
“I wish more people would come. I just want everyone to have homes, “Jennifer said.
