On Tuesday, the Birmingham Education Council responded to an application submitted by the Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School in Besemer to open a campus in the city near Ah Parker High School. The board refused the request.

When the idea of a charter school originated, the founders petitioned the Birmingham School Board to find the school in the field.
Mauri Robinson, the principal of school finance operations, told, told Birmingham Times He understands why the school was not approved at the time.
“The original vision was to have a school in Birmingham,” Robinson said. “Unfortunately, in 2020, when we first submitted a petition, we were unsuccessful. We definitely understand why Birmingham denied us at that time – we had no data. “
Despite the growing school enrollment and soon graduates, the Birmingham School Council still has objections to the application. CBS42 reported that the school system cites objections from neighbors and board members as a reason for the request to be refused.
“We understand that the Birmingham School Board made its decision,” Robinson continued. “This was the story, so we are certainly prepared for this, and although we understand and respect their decision, we will move on. The school plans to appeal the council’s decision.
