The Birmingham Municipal Council today (February 6) has published its budget, confirming £ 148 million discounts and an increase in the Council tax by 7.49% since April.

Social care for adults and children’s services are facing the weight of the cuts, and the reductions in bin collections are also finalized, savings of 4.5 million pounds.

The body made £ 1,49 million from the planned savings of £ 300 million last year – with the 2025/26 budget drawing up other savings.

The Birmingham City Council declared itself an effective bankrupt in October 2023, as it was struggling to deal with equal salaries claims initially estimated at a total of 750 million British pounds.

The commissioners appointed by the government were introduced, with the city already observing huge redundancies, as the Council increased by 10% for the financial year 2024-25.

Council leader John Cotton said the authority seeks to minimize the impact of the more increasing taxes on the most vulnerable: “Of the 466,000 households, one quarter of them will receive some support from the Council’s tax scheme and 75,000 – Those with those with the smallest in the city – are exempt from the tax on the Council.

“What we do with this budget, we look at how we use this as a platform to provide better basic services for the city and ensure that this advice continues its transformation trip to deliver to Birmingham people.”

Commissioners who control the Birmingham City Council have also instructed the authority to increase assets, to raise about £ 1 billion by the end of 2026.

The budget is expected to be signed at a full meeting of the cabinet later this month.
