The fourth season of Big West Basketball on Spectrum SportsNet features every Big West men’s basketball team in action at least once along with five women’s games featuring five different teams. The action begins on “Bold Week” — the first week of conference play — when Big West preseason all-conference team members Barrington Hargress of UC Riverside and Keonte Jones of CSUN face off on Thursday, December 5th in a 7:00 pm game at CSUN’s Premier America Credit Union Arena.
Hawai`i’s preseason all-conference duo, Lily Wahinekapu and Daeja Phillipsheadline the women’s opener on Saturday, Jan. 4, when the Rainbow Wahine, the top-ranked team in the women’s preseason poll, travel to the Mott Athletics Center on the Cal Poly campus for a 1 p.m.
Games with others Big West players with preseason honors include a Thursday, Jan. 23 game between highly touted UCSB graduate transfer Stefan Svensson and UC San Diego senior swingman Aniwaniva Tait-Jones. The matchup between the No. 2 (UCSB) and No. 3 (UCSD) teams in the preseason poll begins at 7:00 PM from UCSD’s LionTree Arena. UC Irvine senior guard Justin Hon and the top-rated Anteaters host the conference’s leading returning scorer, UC Davis senior guard TY Johnsonin a 1:00pm game on Saturday, February 1 at the Bren Events Center.
The package concludes with two key women’s games featuring returning Big West Player of the Year UC Irvine senior guard Deya Lee. First the Anteaters, the #2 team in the preseason poll, travel to Long Beach State (#4) on Saturday, March 1st at 1:00 PM for the latest installment of the “Black and Blue Rivalry.” Lee and UC Irvine then wrap up action on Spectrum SportsNet on the final day of the season, Saturday, March 8 when they take on the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in a 1:00 p.m. tilt.
