Tampa police arrested a 15-year-old boy in connection with the fatal shooting of another teenager at Sulphur Springs earlier this week.

The 14 -year -old Armando Gilbert was riding a bicycle with another minor at North Hillsborough Lane at East Juneu Street on Wednesday when police said another boy shot him at the intersection.

The boy, which Tampa Bay Times did not name for his age, was on his bicycle, making circles in the middle of the intersection and waited for Gilbert to arrive, according to a message from the Tampa police station.

The boy rode his bike after Gilbert, shot him many times and rode, police said.

The officers found Gilbert with an upper body injury around 18:00 in the Hillsborough Lane 8200 block. He was taken to a local hospital and declared dead.

Later, detectives learned that the two teenagers had previous disputes before the shooting happened, according to police.

Police in Tampa and the US Marshal service arrested the boy shortly after 6:00 pm on Thursday. He faced charges of first -degree murder, an aggravated attack with a deadly weapon and a minor possession of a firearm. It was not clear immediately whether the boy would be accused of adult.

“No parent should never experience the heartbreaking loss of a child, especially in such a meaningless and unfair way,” said Tampa police chief Lee Berkau in a news message. “While we mourn along with the Armando family and offer them support during this unthinkable time, we remain committed to holding the minors responsible when they decide to take away the lives of someone else.”
