Texas Health Authorities report 10 Masters Cases in Gaines County – KCBD

Gaines County, TX (News Message) – The Texas Department of State Health Services reports a measles outbreak in Gaines County. 10 cases have currently been identified with the onset of symptoms in the last two weeks.

Eight of the cases are among school -age children and two cases are under 5 years of age. Seven of the patients are hospitalized. All cases are unvaccinated and the residents of Gaines County. Due to the highly contagious nature of this disease, it is likely that additional cases will occur in the Gaines County and the surrounding communities. DSHS works with the South Plains Public Health area and Lubbock’s public health to explore the hearth.

The best way to prevent illness is to immunize with two doses of measles vaccine, which is used mainly as a combined measles-patron-patrial vaccine. Two doses of the MMR vaccine are highly effective in preventing measles.
