Bryan, Texas (KBTX) – Officials within the Texas University System A&M confirmed to KBTX on Monday night that it was not decided who would be the only finalist as a system Chancellor.
The Regents Council met in Houston on Monday morning, spending over 12 o’clock in an executive session.
The search for a new chancellor was brought in October 2024 after current Chancellor John Sharp announced his retirement in force since June 2025.
The chancellor runs 11 universities and eight state agencies.
Numerous reports have said there are five names to consider: Texas controller Glenn Hegar, US representative Michael McCaul, Trent Ashby, President of the Texas Foundation A&Mson Voelkel and President of Alabama Stuart Bell.
Staff of the university system said it was not known when a final decision would be made.
After the Council appoints a single finalist, a 21-day waiting period must be performed before the meeting is finalized.
