Temporary road closures announced for Magic City Classic events – Alabama news anchor

The City of Birmingham has announced temporary road closures for the 83rd annual Magic City Classic weekend.

The city said the Department of Transportation will temporarily close certain roads as activities take place throughout the city.

The following roadway adjustments were made on Wednesday, October 23.

  • The eastbound outside lane of Graymont Avenue is closed.
  • The bike racks at the Legion Field bus stop have gone up.
  • Concrete barricades were moved to close the roads leading to Graymont Ave. from 3rd St. West to 6th St. West.
  • Concrete barricades were moved to close roads leading to 8th Avenue West from 3rd Avenue W to 7th Avenue West.

The city said the following is a schedule for the remaining planned road closures:

Thursday, October 24

5:00 p.m.– Short 20th in front of City Hall will close at 5:00 p.m

Saturday, October 26

  • 2 a.m. — Roads that are part of the Magic City Classic parade route will begin to close, including Park Place.
  • 6 a.m. – 8 a.m. — Graymont Avenue closes from Arkadelphia to Center Street after all Legion Field parking lots fill up.
  • 4am – 6am – Birmingham Department of Transport barricades will move into place for a traffic lane and parade.
  • 8 a.m. — 8th Avenue West closes from Arkadelphia to Center Street. No one putting up the back door can enter after 8am
  • 8am – Parade begins.
  • 9 a.m. – Birmingham CrossPlex game day shuttle service begins.
  • 12:00pm – Boutwell Auditorium and Philips Academy routes begin.
  • 14:30 – Start of the match.
  • 22:00 – Shuttle routes end.

Sunday, October 27

8 a.m. — All street barricades will be removed.
