Ted James leads the recently released Mayoral Survey – WAFB

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – A poll released Monday shows Democrat Ted James with a slight lead in the East Baton Rouge mayoral race, according to the political action committee that paid for the survey.

Asked if the mayoral-presidential election were held today, 29 percent said they would support James, while 28 percent said they would vote for incumbent Sharon West Broome, also a Democrat.

Republican Sid Edwards was third with 22 percent, according to results released Monday.

The poll has a margin of error of 3.8 percent, the pollster said.

The study was commissioned by FuturePAC, a political action committee of the Baton Rouge Area Chamber. The group says it has not endorsed either candidate in the race.

The survey, conducted by JMC Analytics and Polling, included 670 “likely voters” interviewed on October 12 and 13, 2024, according to the organization.

The survey also asked about support for a possible runoff election. A majority of those polled reportedly said they would support James in a runoff against Broome or Edwards. 50 percent said they would back Broome over Edwards in a hypothetical runoff, the pollster said.

The Baton Rouge Area Chamber’s political action committee, FuturePAC, focuses on economic development issues for Louisiana and the metropolitan region, according to the group’s website.
