Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – a delegation from the Dominican Republic recently visited Tamiu, emphasizing the strong relations between the two nations and expressing hopes for prolonged cooperation within the Trump administration. The group, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the distinguished Dominican businessmen, focused on strengthening trade relations and training from US experience in the development of the port.
The visit came shortly after a Venezuelan plane was seized by the US forces to the Dominican Republic during a visit to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, although Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez stressed that the links between the two countries remain unaffected by the incident.
According to Alvarez, “it was a very successful visit. We continue to strengthen the relationship and this will develop further. We see many areas where we can continue to work together. More than two million Dominicans live in the United States, so we have many things in total value and interests. “He emphasized tourism, trade and even baseball as areas for potential growth in relationships.
Fernando Capelan, President of Grupo M. Codevi, which employs 22,000 people, stressed that despite discussions surrounding the rates and potential changes in international trade, the US and the Dominican Republic, they maintain a trade surplus with the US Capelan, pointed out the mutual benefits of long -term trade, saying : “This is in the best interest in the United States to keep this.”
Capelan also expressed interest in learning from the lively port of Larendo’s entry, hoping to apply lessons from his success to the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. “We look forward to seeing how we can duplicate, of course, on a much smaller scale, what we do within the border of the Dominican Republic and Haiti,” Capelan noted.
The delegation views Texas A&M International University (Tamiu) as a key participant in supporting Laredo’s influence as a commercial port. As the Dominican Republic plans to update four of its border cities, partnership with the United States can serve as a decisive step towards achieving these goals.
Representatives of the Dominican Republic emphasized their intention to continue to build relations in both the private and public sector in the United States, strengthening their partnership for future growth.
